[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

If you use a ODBC data source with i-net Clear Reports then you may receive the follow error message:

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

This is an error message from ODBC and not from i-net Clear Reports. This message means that the i-net Clear Reports data source was found but not the corresponding ODBC data source. The cause can be one of the following:

  • The ODBC data source really does not exist and you must create it.
  • The user can not access the ODBC data source. For example, you may have created a user data source, in which case a Windows service can not access it. By default, a Windows service can only access system data sources.
  • On older Windows systems it may be that you have created a 32 bit ODBC data source. This 32 bit ODBC data source can not found from a 64 bit process. See also ODBC architecture mismatch.
